Hospital Giżycko Ltd environmental activities - the exchange lighting for energy-efficient lighting, installation of the photovoltaic system and thermo-modernization.

Why was the project needed?


Implementation of the project resulted in:

1. Energy-efficient lighting have been installed in The Department of Infectious Diseases building and the building has been thermo-modernized

2. Energy-efficient lighting have been installed and air conditioning has been modernized in one room of the Hospital Main Building.

3. Energy-efficient lighting have been installed and the room has been thermo-modernized

in the Dissecting room building.

4. Energy-efficient lighting have been installed in Hospital Administration building.

5. The photovoltaic system has been installed to produce electricity (430 pcs. of photovoltaic panels). Implementation of the project in the long term whave positive affect in turning down greenhouse gas emissions, and improve the environment of the region.


What was the objective of the project?

Improving environmental conditions, and consequently to improve the living conditions of residents of the project area.


What did the project achieve?


The project achieved:

          1. Reduction of carbon dioxide emissions -1152,38 mg /year
          2. Production of energy from renewable sources – 91,42 MWh/year.


Who benefited from the project implementation?


Beneficiaries of the project:

1. Hospital patients and staff.

2. Residents of Giżycko, residents of neighboring municipalities (Kruklanki, Ryn, Miłki, Wydminy).

The progression of the project:

1. Launch of the project - 1.2015 r.

Description of the initial state

The project will include the following objects of the Hospital Giżycki sp. Z o.o. .

    • Infectious Diseases Department building,

    • Dissecting building,

    • Hospital main building,

    • Administrative building.


The deficits in particular buildings at the beginning of implementation:

  • Infectious Diseases Department building - insulation of walls, insulation of flat roof, exchange of window frames (PVC) - 76 pieces, replacement of the door woodwork (PVC) - 6 pieces, central heating installation replacement, exchange of lighting fixtures to LED.

  • Dissecting building - flat roof insulation, replacement of window frames (PVC) - 11 pieces, replacement of the door woodwork (PVC) - 4 pieces, replacement of the central heating installation, replacement of lighting fixtures to LED .

  • Hospital main building - replacement of lighting fixtures to LED, insulation of walls and roof inside the morgue with the wool glass, exchange of air conditioning system in the morgue.

2. Selection of the project coordinator - 06.12.2015

3. Selection of the contractor of the functional-utility program - 08.27.2015

4. Receiving completed functional-utility program - 21.10.2015 received from the Contractor - "SOPLARPOL Polish Centre for Renewable Energy” (SOPLARPOL Polskie Centrum Energii Odnawialnej).

5. Implementation of the first informative conference (opening the project) entitled: Hospital Giżycko sp z o.o. -Another step towards the environment with the participation of Norwegian Founds.

Description of the conference:

10/26/2015 in the hall of the Hospital Giżycko sp. z o.o. library conference entitled: "Hospital Giżycko sp. o.o. - Another step towards the environment with the participation of Norwegian Funds” was held.

Implementers of the project, Hospital representatives, representatives of local authorities, businesses and representatives of hospitals cooperating with the Hospital Giżycko sp. o.o. were present at the conference.

During the conference materials and financial scope of the project entitled: Hospital Giżycko Ltd environmental activities - the exchange lighting for energy-efficient lighting, installation of the photovoltaic system and thermo-modernization were presented.

Sources of funding and Funders were described. Substantive issues closely related to the scope of the project were also presented: the problem of appropriate selection of methods for lowering low emissions, good practices as well as already implemented projects in the field of thermo-modernization and obtaining energy from renewable sources were among them.

In addition information about prospects of financing projects involving environment friendly solutions was also presented.

04.30.2016 - Announcement of an open tender for the project documentation and construction work in the project. The tender was settled on 08.06.2016. 06.09.2016 - Contract signed with the winner of the open tenderer - the General Contractor - the company RenCraft Sp. o.o.

05.08.2016 Receiving of the project documentation and handing over construction site to the General Contractor.


The progress of construction work at the end of August 2016.

Thermal modernization and installation of efficient lighting in the building of the Department of Infectious Diseases - warming compartments of the building - exterior walls and a flat roof, replacement of window frames PVC (10 pcs.), Mounting radiators - 56 pcs.


Replacement of piping and installation of thermostatic heads up to 20 radiators, 106 lighting frames installed.

Thermal modernization and installation of efficient lighting in the Dissecting Building - mounting 7 radiators. Modernization of the DHW by replacing pipes and circulation, conducting tests of the renewed system. Replacement of the external network of DHW and central heating between Dissecting Building and Department of Infectious Diseases with the execution of tests.


Informative Conference No. 2

11.15.2016 - The project team took part in a conference on issues of photovoltaics. The conference was held in Elk - the title of the conference was "Photovoltaics in the companies and local government - the investment process step by step", the organizer of the event was the Mayor of Elk. During the conference, Anna Bielsko gave a lecture on the project and the progress of the project.

The approval of construction works - 15.12.2016

On 12.15.2016, the Hospital Giżycko sp. z o.o. approved the construction works carried out in the project. The works included:

Thermo-modernization and installation of efficient lighting in the Department of Infectious Diseases building.

The following works were carried out:

- Warming compartments of the building (182 m2).

- Warming compartments of the building (589.33 m2).

- Replacement of window frames (94 pcs.).

- Replacement of door woodwork to wooden one (6 pcs.).

- Modernization of internal installations (central heating, DHW) - exchange of heaters - 56 pieces, thermo-valves - 56 pieces, replacement of transfer pipes.

- Built-in lighting were replaced to energy-saving - (142 pcs.). Replacement of lighting fixtures to LED.

- Repairs made to flashings and roofing.


As a part of ineligible costs following works were implemented:

- Modernization of cold water installation.

- Repairs of flashings on the roof of the Department of Infectious Diseases building.


Thermo-modernization and installation of efficient lighting in the dissecting building.

Following works were conducted:

- Warming compartments of the building (115 m2).

- Replacement of windows frames (11 pcs.).

- Replacement of door woodwork to wooden one (6 pcs.).

- Modernization of internal installations (central heating, DHW) - exchange of heaters 7 pieces, thermo-valves - 7 pieces

- Built-in lighting were replaced to energy-saving - (22 pcs.). Replacement of lighting fixtures to LED.


Installation of energy-efficient lighting and thermal modernization of the morgue in the Hospital main building.


The following works were conducted:

- Built-in lighting were replaced to energy-saving - (1293 pcs.). Replacement of lighting fixtures to LED.

- Modernisation of the cooling system (cooling system in the morgue)

- Warming compartments of the building (14.12 m2).


Installation of energy-efficient lighting in the Administration Building.

The following works were conducted:

- Built-in lighting were replaced to energy-saving - (259 pcs.). Replacement of lighting fixtures to LED.


Installation of photovoltaic cells at the Giżycko Hospital (connection to the electrical switchboard in the Main Building).

The following works were conducted:

- Installation of photovoltaic cells (107.5 kW) - 430 pcs.

- Installation of auxiliary inverter and its accessories.


The approval of construction works - 15.02.2017

On 15.02.2017 construction work on the modernization of the boiler room of the Hospital Giżycki have been accepted. As part of the work the DHW system has been equipped with the segment to use surplus energy from the photovoltaic system.


Informative Conference – 17.02.2017

On 02.17.2017 conference on progress in implementation of the project entitled

Hospital Giżycko Ltd environmental activities - the exchange lighting for energy-efficient lighting, installation of the photovoltaic system and thermo-modernization was organized in the restaurant Masovia (Dąbrowskiego 8 st. in Giżycko)

The conference was attended by employees of the Hospital Giżycko Ltd., implementers of the project, representatives of regional and local authorities, representatives of other hospitals, representatives of the companies involved in the project.
